Athanasius of Alexandria

Exiled five times for refusing to compromise, Athanasius spent a lifetime defending the truth that Christ is fully God — not a created being, as Arius taught. His stand at the Council of Nicaea shaped the Christian understanding of the Trinity for every generation since.
