In the Life of the Saints
After years chasing pleasure and philosophy, Augustine heard a child's voice singing “take up and read.” He opened Paul's letters to this very passage — and his restless life turned toward God. He became Bishop of Hippo and wrote Confessions, the West's first spiritual autobiography.
