Basil the Great

In the Life of the Saints
Bishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia, Basil built one of the first Christian hospitals and poorhouses, a complex so large it was nicknamed “the new city.” A defender of Nicene orthodoxy against Arianism, he also wrote a monastic rule still followed by many Eastern Orthodox monks today.
