In the Life of the Saints
An English monk known as the “Apostle to the Germans,” Boniface famously felled a sacred oak tree dedicated to Thor to demonstrate the powerlessness of the old gods, then used its wood to build a chapel. He was martyred in old age by a group of bandits while awaiting converts for confirmation.
