Catherine of Siena

An uneducated laywoman who experienced mystical visions from childhood, Catherine became one of the most influential figures of her era, personally persuading Pope Gregory XI to return the papacy from Avignon to Rome. She died at 33 and was later named a Doctor of the Church.
