Hildegard of Bingen
1098 – 1179 · Germany
“O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth.”
A Benedictine abbess who began having visions as a child, Hildegard eventually wrote them down at her superiors' urging, producing theology, medical texts, and some of the earliest surviving music by a named composer. She corresponded with popes and emperors and was declared a Doctor of the Church in 2012.
