In the Life of the Saints
Nicknamed “Chrysostom,” meaning “golden-mouthed,” for his preaching, John became Archbishop of Constantinople and immediately alienated the imperial court with sermons condemning wealth and excess. He was exiled twice and died on a forced march into further exile.
