A Catholic priest troubled by both the doctrine of the Mass and the violence of radical Anabaptist uprisings, Menno left the priesthood to lead a peaceful wing of the Anabaptist movement. His followers became known as Mennonites, still committed to his convictions on pacifism and adult baptism.
