A Scottish Baptist teacher who trained soldiers as a YMCA chaplain in Egypt during World War I, Chambers died suddenly of appendicitis at just 43. His widow compiled his spoken teachings into My Utmost for His Highest, a devotional that has remained continuously in print for over a century.
