In the Life of the Saints
As Archbishop of Canterbury, Cranmer shepherded the Church of England through its break from Rome and wrote the Book of Common Prayer, whose phrases still echo through English-speaking worship. Convicted of heresy under Mary I, he thrust the hand that had signed his recantation into the flames first.
