In the Life of the Saints
A former pawnbroker's apprentice turned Methodist preacher, Booth founded the Salvation Army in London's East End to combine evangelism with practical relief for the urban poor. Organized along military lines, complete with uniforms and brass bands, the Army spread to over 130 countries in his lifetime.
