In the Life of the Saints
A shoemaker with a passion for languages and geography, Carey became known as the father of modern missions after helping found the Baptist Missionary Society and sailing for India in 1793. He translated the Bible into dozens of Indian languages and campaigned against the practice of widow-burning.
